Wahoocegįkra
Hoocąk Immersion Daycare
Tomah, WI
In July
2007, the Language Division began the pilot program for an Immersion
Daycare for children 3 months to 5 years of age. The daycare
center, Wahoocegįkra, was opened for four Hoocąk children from the
Tomah, WI area. These children are being spoken to in Hoocąk
and nurtured in the Hoocąk way. Apprentices and Master
Speakers have worked with these little ones for the past year and a
half with great success. These children understand, think and
are beginning to speak in Hoocąk.
**These children
will be the first group of children to have Hoocąk as their first
language in over 50 years!**
Additional centers are
planning to be opened as funding becomes available.
Enjoy some of the good
times at the Wahoocegįkra.
